Logan is new Vascular Access Nurse for MedWest PDF Print E-mail

MedWest health system has a new Vascular Access Nurse, which will ensure that patients get outstanding assistance with several necessary procedures, while freeing up physicians and nurses for other responsibilities.

Angela Logan will be placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC’s) at patients’ bedsides at Harris Regional Hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center and Swain County Hospital.

A vascular access procedure involves the insertion of a flexible thin plastic tube, or catheter, into a blood vessel to provide a painless way of drawing blood or delivering drugs and nutrients into a patient's bloodstream over a period of weeks, months or even years. Additionally a patient can be discharged with a PICC line in place and can be used for long-term treatment, up to approximately one year with proper care and maintenance.

Ragweed is just one of the culprits of allergy and sinus problems during the fall season. But, just turning on the furnace can distribute a lot of mold and mites that have been sitting there all summer, said Dr. Shawn Kosnik of Mountain Ear, Nose & Throat Associates in Sylva.

Harris Medical Park Features New Physicians, Patient Friendly Innovations PDF Print E-mail

SYLVA – Harris Medical Park, the newly-constructed, state-of-the-art medical office building adjacent to Harris Regional Hospital, is now open, providing patients with outpatient care and lab services, with plans to add comprehensive imaging services.

The three-story, 45,000 sq. ft. medical office building is home to Sylva Medical Center, WNC Pediatric & Adolescent Care and Mountain Valley Surgery, which have welcomed a total of five new physicians, one physician assistant and two nurse practitioners to those practices in the last two years. Harris Regional Hospital’s outpatient lab has also been relocated to the new building. The expansion of the medical staff created a need for more office space, with an emphasis on ease of access for patients.

MedWest CEO Names Leadership Team PDF Print E-mail

SYLVA/WAYNESVILLE -- MedWest Health System CEO Mike Poore announced the senior administrative team who will lead the organization serving Western North Carolina with facilities in Haywood, Jackson, Swain and Macon counties.

MedWest links Harris Regional Hospital, Swain County Hospital and Haywood Regional Medical Center under a management agreement with Carolinas Healthcare System that became effective January 1, 2010.
