WestCare’s 10th Annual "Smoky Streak" an Overwhelming Success

On Saturday, October 4, 300 runners and walkers came out on a beautiful fall day to participate in WestCare Health System Foundation's 10th Annual "Smoky Streak".
The scenic route along the Tuckaseegee River to Webster Baptist Church and the wonderful weather provided the perfect atmosphere for the run. Runners from as far away as Hillsborough, NC participated in the race.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, proceeds from this event will go to fund a digital mammography machine at Harris Regional Hospital. In keeping with the theme, t-shirt logos were pink and survivors of breast cancer were given a rose.
The addition of electronic race timing chips in the runner’s bibs proved to be a tremendous success. This helped in determining the winners and decreasing the time after the race for the awards.
“We would like to thank the runners, volunteers and sponsors who helped make this year’s race a success,” stated Michele Garashi, Director of Foundation for WestCare.

Information on Advance Directives/Living Wills Available

WestCare Health System offers free information on living wills 9 a.m. to noon on the first Friday of each month in the lobby of Harris Regional Hospital. A WestCare Health System employee knowledgeable about advance directives will be available to answer questions. The living will document "Five Wishes" will also be available at no charge. “We Proudly Brew Starbucks® Coffee”
“Dr. Java” is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the lobby of Harris Regional Hospital. We proudly brew Starbucks® coffee. Dr. Java will also serve a variety of homemade bakery items and treats.
