Bereavement Support Group

The WestCare Hospice Bereavement Support Group holds an informal meeting each month to bring together those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

The meetings provide an opportunity for grieving family and friends to share experiences with one another and to offer and receive moral and emotional support.

Meetings are held in a confidential setting and supportive environment and facilitate a positive journey through the natural process of loss. The Hospice Bereavement Counselor and the WestCare Health System Hospital Chaplain facilitate the group meetings.

Meetings are held in the Chapel Conference Room at Harris Regional Hospital on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. For more information about the Hospice Bereavement Support Group, please call Judy Pepper at 828-586-7410.

Fibromyalgia Support Group

WestCare Health System holds educational forums on Fibromyalgia about once every year. Sponsored by the Women's Rehabilitation Services, these forums are designed to offer support to those with Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition causing muscle pain and fatigue.

Guest speakers discuss different aspects of the disease at these meetings. The Support Group plans for a number of future meetings. These meetings will be announced as plans are finalized and dates are set. For more information please call Tracy Extine at 828-586-7235.

Other Fibromyalgia Services

WestCare Health System's Women's Rehabilitation Services also offers a comprehensive six-week physical therapy program designed to assist patients with Fibromyalgia.

The program teaches patients how to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. It consists of individual therapy for soft tissue massage, modalities such as ice, heat, and tens unit, and education regarding a self-management program.

Within the program patients also attend a group therapy class where they receive instruction on various exercises and stretches as well as education on six steps for management and care.

A physician's referral is necessary for patients to obtain these services. If you would like more information about this program, please call 586-7235.
